Forenzics ‘Malign’ Album Review on The Orange Press

Forenzics Malign Album Cover Artwork_SRGB

John Hardaker just posted a review of our new album ‘Malign‘ yesterday and it’s a cracker!  Here’s an excerpt…

Experimental music is not supposed to affect one this deeply. But it does. In fact all of Malign does. Yes, like all good modern art it asks to be listened to on its own terms. Yet it does not push away but creates a place for the listener to go and to explore as it happens. Unlike too much ‘experimental’ music, it includes; it does not exclude.

Forenzics Malign Album Launch eFlyer - Sydney

Our Sydney launch coincides with the release of the album online and takes place at Sydney’s unofficial second home of outsider music and arts,  The Record Crate, 34 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, NSW, on the 6th March 2015, doors at 8.00pm, $10 entry on the door.

This show will feature the seminal line up of Matthew Syres and Dirk Kruithof on guitars, Joe Cummins on trumpet and electronics, Evan McGregor on drums, and Shahane Bekarian on projections, for a totally unique, stunning, cinematic, and synaesthetic journey down the rabbit warren of our darkest musical hearts.  Joe has relocated to Melbourne so it may be a while before this awesome lineup appears in Sydney again.  Not to be missed.

Special guest for the evening will be Elsen Price, improvising on solo double bass.  Elsen has shared the stage with such notable performers as Mike Patton, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Hunter and Bobby Singh in addition to performing and releasing material under his own name.

Forenzics Malign Album Launch eFlyer

Forenzics are embarking on our first ever interstate tour in support of this, our fourth studio album, entitled ‘Malign‘, playing 1/4 Inch at Rad Bar in Wollongong on the 3rd March, The Record Crate in Glebe on the 6th March and Make It Up Club at Bar Open in Melbourne on the 10th March.

We’ll be playing with a slightly improvised line-up at each venue but with stalwarts Dirk Kruithof and Matthew Syres on guitars, coupled with Shahane Bekarian’s (RedCell Disorder’s) signature large scale projections, each is sure to be a uniquely stunning, cinematic, synaesthetic journey down the rabbit warren.

New Album ‘Malign’ to be Released 6th March 2015 – Presales Are Go!

20 February 2015 by , No Comments

Our new album that has been so long in the making is finally starting to see the light!  We’re releasing the album on the 6th March 2015 and will be playing Sydney, Melbourne and Wollongong gigs in March to support it – see accompanying posts for more info.

In the meantime have a listen to some tracks off the album, or even pre-order your copy of the album and you’ll get immediate download of 3 tracks, with the CD or Digital Album being sent or available for download after the release date.

A little about the album…

This new album ‘Malign’ was recorded completely live, without overdubs, edits or preconceived music over the space of one day on the 15th June 2012 and features drummer John Wilton, whose subtle yet fiery approach lends the eight tracks of darkly sublime and textured improvisations an openness, clarity and purposefulness previously unmatched in studio recordings from Forenzics.  Where previous album ‘Build Ruins’ (released via ‘New Weird Australia’ in 2011) was noisy, chaotic, electronic and dense, ‘Malign’ is subtle and bewitching, spacious, otherworldly and surprisingly listenable whilst still maintaining the band’s signature dark and atmospheric sound.

The album was recorded and mixed by Michelle Barry, mastered by William Bowden, and is being released by New Weird Australia’s New Editions label.  The album and poster artwork was created by Heath Killen, New Weird Australia’s resident designer and looks great.   Without a doubt this is our best album to date, both sonically and visually, thanks so much to everyone who’s helped to make it so.

Anyway come help us celebrate at FBI Social, Level 2, Kings Cross Hotel, 248 William Street, Kings Cross, Thursday 16th June, 8pm.  $10.
